TITLE
Food labelling and claims as an educational tool: experience from Thailand

ABSTRACT

The first food labelling regulation of Thailand was established in 1979 (B.E.2522), the same year that the present Food Act came into effect. Since then Thailand has seen several regulations (called “Notification of the Ministry of Public Health”) on both general labelling and specific labelling requirements for certain food products. In 1998, Notification of the Ministry of Public Health No.182 (B.E.2541) Re: Nutrition Labelling became effective, after six years of the drafting process. This presentation describes twenty-three years of the developments of Thai regulations on labelling, especially nutrition labelling and claims.
